CLINIQUE MOISTURE SURGE™ 72-HOUR AUTO-REPLENISHING HYDRATOR & OVERNIGHT MASK

The history of mankind is marked by grand inventions. Wheel, printing machine, steam engine, penicillin, electricity, telecommunications, automobile, airplane, computer and Internet are just some of them and there is no area of man's venture which can't boast in magnificent discoveries. Let's take architecture for example, monumental edifices, space stations and shuttles, robots – all this is an evidence to what unexpected altitudes reach the human ability and capacity to materialize almost anything it imagines. We don't have to observe just the artefacts around us, people are nowadays able to combine various treatments, products and plastic surgeries and „build“ perfect bodies. We live in an incredible world in which, if we don't like something on ourselves, we can easily „fix“ it according to our own beauty standards. Clinique is one of the first brands that was, in 1968., founded on the philosophy „great skin can be created“ and from then till now they're placing products which serve exactly for that purpose.
The story began in 1967. when Carol Phillips, editor of Vogue's beauty section, interviewed Dr. Norman Orentreich, a dermatologist, and published an article titled „Can Great Skin Be Created?“, in which she wrote about his revolutionary method of skin care in three steps. At that time it provoked quite a bit of scepticism because the market was dominated by universal preparations „for everyone“. Today I'm flabbergasted to read about the fact that the same cream was being sold to persons with oily and dry skin alike and I actually realize how much the beauty industry advanced. The mentioned article drew the attention of Leonard Lauder, the son of renowned Estée, who wanted to expand outside the eponymous enterprise of his famous mother and initiate an innovative and modern brand steered toward younger and more demanding population. Grasping that Carol Phillips was addressing precisely such audiences and that she firmly believes that traditional business should be redefined, he hired her along with Orentreich, and he, with his visionary way of thinking and pioneering formulations, played a vital role in originating a new brand.
Estée Lauder herself immediately found common ground with Carol Phillips, she was delighted by the idea of fresh and different line of products, tested for allergies and odorless. Given that hers was aromatized, she was acceptant to the opposite, an assortment expected by women of the era. Leonard's wife Evelyn is responsible for the name. When visiting Paris she noticed Clinique Esthétiques showbills all over the city, and they referred to venues where many female Parisians enjoyed rituals of face and body care. She grew very fond of the word which reminded her of clinical approach with a whiff of French glamor. A year later, in semptember of 1968., the question from Vogue was answered – at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York Clinique was presented to the world, together with the slogan „Great Skin Can Be Created“. Since its inception, Clinique has been propagated as world's first prestigious brand developed by dermatologist, with medically tested and 100% fragrance-free products. Another important breakthrough was the Clinique Computer, an analytical service that was determining skin type and proper care regimen. Consultants in each store are recognizable by their white laboratory coats and are also trained to discern diverse skin types and eventual complications, in concordance with which they recommend appropriate Clinique preparations.
They debuted with 117 cosmetic and skin care products packed in gentle green and yellow tubes that remain popular presently, supplemented with later dated pink and purple ones. Out of multitude of items, a 3-step system that includes face cleansing with facial soap, exfoliation of dead cells with lotion and hydration and balancing of skin with moisturizing cream, was and continues to be the starry trademark of Clinique. Identical advertisment with three products next to toothbrush and bolded letters „twice a day“ was operational for more than 20 years, sending a message to women: „as you're commited to brush your teeth twice a day, devote yourselves with similar eagerness to skin care in these three steps and you'll experience the fantastic results“.
I shan't speak today about all three steps, just the last one, which is hydration and for that objective I employ Clinique Moisture Surge™ 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator and Moisture Surge™ Overnight Mask. I've already recorded a detailed review of the former and you can access to it via this link, alongside Moisture Surge AllAbout Eyes cream. Once I've tried it, I unceasingly turn back to it and it's a regular feature in my cosmetic bag: it provides the supreme hydration, as if my face is literally inflicted by a layer of water that follows me for the entire day, up until I wash it off. After I remove it in the evening, the face is double-moisturized in relation to morning, due to progressive Auto-Replenishing technology which helps the skin to establish an internal water source. The formula includes caffeine that unlocks rehydration process, hyaluronic acid and active aloa water that saturates the skin. The matrix of humectants and polymers reduces the loss of water so this cream, owing to listed ingredients, ensures plumpness and resurfacing of natural sheen.
Usually I'm a proponent of utilizing products from the same line, their components complement each other much better so I decided to check out Moisture Surge™ Overnight Mask. During sleep the skin is deprived of moisture and this abundantly rich mask prevents such ill-disposed occurence, while simultaneously supports renewal and soothes it to maintain soft, smooth, hydrated and glossy. Unlike gelly-textured cream, the mask is characterized by buttery formulation, it doesn't contain oils, parabens nor scents and it's convenient for multifarious complexions. The amalgam of two preparations is extremely moisturizing regardless of season, which means that the skin is considerably fuller and healthier. I would describe the effect as a plant whose leaves after watering flourish in vigorous rifeness.
In one conversation, Leonard Lauder pointed out that Estée and Carol were close friends who understood women and their needs, on the basis of which they devised products that changed the world of beauty. In recent times we're faced with a flood of dubious preparations promoted by absolutely everybody – singers, actresses, models and influencers, while the brands themselves, under pressure of earnings and to stay competitive, increase the quantity at the cost of quality. Because of the overwhelmingly loaded market it's predicted that future of beauty industry will be oriented toward personalized items for each individual and their skin type, and I'm inclined to regard that we are going back to the beginning, to the spring from which Clinique emerged: every single person is accountable for their own skin and must find a line of products that will render it beautiful.
Have you tried Clinique Moisture Surge™ 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator or Overnight Mask? What are your impressions? Write me in the comments.
Till the next post, all the best!
