DOLCE & GABBANA ANTHOLOGY 3 - L’IMPÉRATRICE

Do you give any credence to prophesying human destiny with the help of Tarot cards? The method emerged in antiquity and managed to survive until modern times, and the procedure is simple: you select a few cards of a particular positive or negative conotations on account of which you hear what your future will be like. Personally, I'm not exactly inclined toward such explications, I think that we are the architects of our own destiny and that we have the free will and choice in which direction we wish to march. I don't believe in inevitable determinedness, rather I perceive the destiny as a map of the mountain that's empty and uncharted, and our decisions and actions resolve whether the acsension or plummeting down on the figurative stairway will occur. Thoughts and deeds of present moment designates our future, as Roger McDonald said: „I'm master of my own destiny and I can make my life anything that I wish it to be.“ We all possess this ability and power, the only question is will we actually do it or just let go and lament about how everything is in vain anyway, how it is written and preordained. Tarot cards fascinates many people, among others the famous Dolce&Gabbana duo, who found inspiration in them for their The Anthology perfume line, from which I chose L'Impératrice for myself.
Dolce&Gabbana is a renowned Italian brand and the persons behind it are Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana who, since thier first Real Woman collection in 1986., delights the world with their vivid designs fraugt with color and floral motifs. For me, Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, surrounded by seas, bathed in sun, blessed with wonderful nature, with rich history and delicious cuisine, and this duet from year to year draws the artistry of fashion shows from its beauties and promote it in the best possible way.  Beside the amazing pieces of clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry, the offer extends to unique and highly aesthetic perfumes which allured numerous women with their lushness. One of them is L'Impératrice from The Dolce&Gabbana Anthology assortment.
Six perfumes devised according to Tarot cards are: 1-Le Bateleur/The Magician, 3-L'Imperatrice/The Empress, 6-L'Amoureaux/The Lovers, 10-La Rou de la Fortune/The Wheel of Fortune, 11-La Force/Strength and 18-La Lune/The Moon. Numbers 1, 6 and 11 are intended for men, and 3, 10 and 18 for women. The advertising campaign stirr the public because models posed naked to the photographer Mario Testino, and each perfume was presented by one celebrity: La Bateleur by Tyson Ballou, L'Amoureaux by Noah Mills, La Rou de la Fortune by Eva Herzigova and Fernando Fernandes, La Force by Tony Ward, La Lune by Claudia Schiffer and L'Impératrice by Naomi Campbell.
The Empress sits on a throne in wheat field, illustrating her authority over growth and fertility, the crown with twelve stars symbolizes her dominion throughout the year and the scepter in her hand embodies the power over life. The meaning of this card is traditionally linked to motherhood and family, creation of life, romance, art or the prospect of a new job. The perfume itself is depicted as flamboyant and energetic – for the empress life's a movie in which she is a main star and heroine that emanates magnetic charisma and strength of character that captures all the glances. This description correspond perfectly to the sponsor, 'cause Naomi Campbell is all that.
It comes in a transparent glass bottle of 100 ml with black shutter on top and white label with inscribed name, all of which appears minimalistically elegant and luxurious. I must admit that it reminds me of Les Exclusifs de Chanel, with tiny differences in a form of the coverlid and of course the logo. Upper notes consists of rhubarb, red currant and succulent harmony of kiwi, at the heart there are pink cyclamen and fresh watermelon, while the base tones are musk, sandalwood and grapefruit – the aroma opens with ripe, exotic tinges which then give way to musky basis. Watermelon is my favorite fruit, a salvation for summer heat, and I never encountered a perfume that incorporate its scented notes. That's one of the reasons why it attracted me instantly. Although it assumes fruity and floral notes, it's not overly sweet: musky chords makes it playful and at the same time ultra-feminine, therefore it's my preferable summer day perfume.
Have you tried L'Impératrice? What are your impressions? Write me in the comments.
Best wishes till the next post!
