VIKTOR & ROLF BONBON EAU DE PARFUM

Christmas mornings of my childhood are memories that I'll remember for the rest of my life, that magical moment when I wake up and, still sleepy, ecstatically run to see with what Santa Claus has rewarded me. Almost regularly, camouflaged among other presents, a superabundant bag of wonderful candies was smiling at me, including my favorite caramels. I can't even describe my happiness when I would unfold the colorful decorative paper, when my nostrils would be ennobled by their delicatessen whiff and when I would take a bite. I always liked to slowly mince small portions with my teeth, to let them stretch and melt in my mouth, unfurling the opulence of flavors. They are the only dainty which I associate with Christmas nowadays, throughout the year they barely wanders in my thoughts, but during this period I especially revel in their suffusing charms. The perfume that, when I first smelled it, evoked the waterfalls of nostalgic recollections and conveyed me back to my early youth is Viktor & Rolf Bonbon.
The paramount reason for such reaction is the most expressed component of this perfume – caramel, whose history is long yet rather vague, because there's no explicit evidence of its genesis. Some assertions claims that it was discovered by the Arabs in late 10th or at the dawn of 11th century, and this crunchy variety, called kurat al milh or „the sweet ball of salt“, was the product of sugar crystallization in boiling water. Other sources consider it to be exclusively American delicacy from 1650., when settlers were molding firm bonbon rings in kettles, while 200 years in future the recipes that added milk or fat had emerged. These are the precursors of caramels that we know now, softer and chewier, and they are quite simple to prepare by heating milk or cream, butter and sugar, along with optional supplements, commonly cinnamon, honey and vanilla extract, whereas the texture density depends on lenght of cooking. Two years ago, in Norway, I encountered one of the attractions of Scandinavia, which is salted caramel. I was sceptical in the beginning, but after a while I got used to that glace-briny combination.
I would depict the Bonbon as a vial of caramelized sensation. Upon delineating a perfume the adjective „yummy“ has never crossed my mind, but in this case it's perfectly convenient. When I sprinkle it on my body, I feel like I embowered it with a colloidal, but not sticky caramel, which is the primary characteristic of fragrance evolution, from the maturation of pungent, esculent upper note, to a more lactic middle and a darkly deep base. It's devised to embody the idea of edibility and indeed, you emanate so much irresistibility with it that other people, what I've heard with my own ears, wish to literally nibble you. However, the initial estimation, in a rhapsodic millieu of tangerine, peach, orange blossom, jasmine, cedar, sandalwood, amber and guaiac wood, quickly transforms into aesthetically intricated sensuality on your skin.
The official site portrays Bonbon Eau de Parfum as a timeless, pure and absolute quest for satisfaction, the festivity of relaxness and joy to which empowered, self-aware and wholehearted women indulge without hesitation, who fashions their stories seduced by auto-erotic sensory experience. Admittedly, my inceptive judgement was that it seemed pretty weak, nearly uniformed and unassuming, but then all of its sophisticated complexity began to reveal, one subtle layer and one exciting nuance after another, as when molten caramel caresses your taste buds. I'd definitely recommend pre-purchase testing, because the odor inside the vessel is significantly different from that which expand freely, from delectable to physically alluring. Bonbon Couture is also marketed, a lush and intense interpretation of the original scent, in emballage that resembles a silk, silver-pink bow.
Not surprisingly, the preliminary aspect that appealed to me is the unique receptacle design. The extravagant Viktor & Rolf creations borders with artwork, and the equal precision and elaboration is apparent in the selection of high-quality ingredients distributed through incredible aromas. In order to parry them worthily, they've hired master craftsmen from the renowned Pochet du Courval, and they're responsible for the extraordinary singularity of adorable Bonbon bottle. Despite the extreme operational difficulties, the glass arch is successfully effectuated by virtue of uncompromising, revolutionary and patented procedure. Staying true to the silhouettes, the outlines of prow stature are painted in pink tones with an exact degradation technique.
Although the remarkably detailed flask was conceived as a candy that would round up the entire narrative, personally it reminds me of a beautiful bow or butterfly. The names of perfume and brand are inscribed on the silver cap, and the inspired minuteness is reflected in the logo, which is an imitation of wax with etched letters. Certainly this is probably the most captivating packaging that I possess and it's impossible to pass by it without noticing, and I prefer to wear the perfume in winter when it reaches the ideal contrast to cold days.
This year, Viktor & Rolf gift set had welcomed me under the Christmas tree: a pink box with a tiny sequins, a silver snowflake, a pink bow and a black seal, the repository that hides Perfumed Shower Gel and Perfumed Body Lotion as well, and I'm looking forward to my usual ritual that prescribes showering with gel, applying the lotion and finally a few drops of perfume itself. It's fascinating how convincingly Viktor & Rolf had metamorphosed the caramel into an enchantingly particular liquid that arouses reminiscenses of opening the swooshing wrapping, of delightful redolence and insatiable relish of Christmas bonbons. One thing is for sure – if you love caramel, you will cherish this perfume too.
Have you tried Viktor & Rolf Bonbon? What are your impressions? Write me in the comments.
Till the next post, best wishes!

  9. This Viktor & Rolf Bonbon set is adorable. I really like the packaging. The perfume bottle is so beautiful. It also makes me think of a beautiful bow, more so than a bonbon but I can see the reference intended. With a little imagination, I can see this bottle as a pretty wrapped up candy. A butterfly is another association for me. It really is a pretty bottle with an eye-catching design. I'm glad to hear that you enjoy the perfume as well. It was interesting to read about the history of caramel. I always thought it was a French invention because I came across the caramel cakes in some French historical books. It doesn't surprise me that caramel has a longer history than that. With food it is always hard to know exactly where some trend was started. I think it is completely possible for different countries to come up with same ideas about food preparation. In the past, people had to be more creative with preparing sweets and dishes in general. Anyhow, this was a lovely review. As always, your posts are always well written, informative and interesting. I wish you all the best in 2020.

The bottle is so cute too. Pretty cool that caramel has a strong history from centuries ago. I love that I always learn a bit of history from your blog posts!
